Overview
Monterey Garden Insect Spray is a B.t. (Bacillus thuringiensis) alternative made from spinosad, (produced by fermentation). OMRI registered (Organic Materials Review Institute). Use to control of foliage feeding caterpillars, fire ants and other insect pests of lawns, vegetables, outdoor ornamentals and fruit crops.
Spinosid is is derived through the fermentation of a naturally occurring soil bacterium (Saccharopolyspora spinosa, a rare actinomycete) and unlike B.t. it is active both active by ingestion and contact exposure and provides longer residual control. It also controls more than just caterpillars. Spinosad does not significantly effect beneficial although applications to areas where bees are actively foraging should be avoided.
