Overview
This old world bean grows well in cool weather unlike other garden Beans. A staple bean in the Mediterranean.
Long Pod Fava Bean is an upright, non-vining plant that grow to 4 feet tall. Beautifully ornamental purple and white blossoms appear before the large glossy pods grow out.
The fava bean is often used when mature, shelled as lima beans, but can be eaten immature cooked in the pod like snap peas.
Approximately 85 days to maturity from spring planting. Can also be planted in the fall in mild regions.Known botanically as Vicia faba.
