The flowers have 3 small lower petals and two large upper petals that are fringed like tiny bird's wings. It gets its name because from a distance it appears as though the plant is covered with miniature canaries.
It's foliage is five-lobed and very attractive - reminiscent of bleeding heart foliage.
Canary Bird Vine is an annual in USDA Zones 8 and lower. It is perennial in Zones 9 and 10.
