Artichoke - Green Globe Improved
For the best germination, soak artichoke seeds in warm water for 4-6 days before sowing. Artichokes prefer fertile well drained soil in full sun .
Artichoke (Cynara scolymus) is a 6 foot tall perennial vegetable with large edible immature flower buds. Hearts can be canned or pickled. Steamed artichokes are great for dipping in butter or sauces. Under ideal conditions artichokes can be harvested the second season.
Artichokes ferny thistle-like foliage is also useful as an ornamental in the landscape.
